Healthy Eating and the SAD Diet

Eating healthy can do a lot for your standard of living. Knowing the best foods to eat and then eating them can extend your life. The American diet is the worse in the world. That's right, in this land of plenty the Standard American Diet or SAD diet is the worse in the world. Its ironic that we spend more money on health insurance, fad diets, fitness, and medicines than any country per capita, by a very wide margin. We have diseases here that just barely exist in onther countries and are even more rare in particular cultures.
500,000 people die from heart disease every year usually as a long term result of unhealthy eating. $208 billion spent on prescriptions and 40% of cancers are related to poor diet and lack of exercise.
This is why there is a premium on eating healthy and most of us just dont know how to do it.

The SAD diet has many elements and they are the opposite of healthy eating. Lets see of the SAD diet is your diet (The Unhealthy, Unlucky 13):

  1. You dont eat breakfast, and usually have coffee or soda in the morning
  2. You normally take lunch after 3-4 hours of working and its normally something from a fast food restaurant or restaurant with high calorie, high fat, high sodium foods.
  3. If you feel sleepy or tired in the afternoon you snack on something sugary, or low calorie/low fat if you think about it, or you just get another cup of coffee or soda.
  4. If you have dinner at home a major portion of it can be cooked in the microwave or you reheat your leftovers using the microwave.
  5. If you eat dinner out, its usually fast food, or another restaurant with high calorie, high fat, high sodium foods.
  6. You eat or drink foods with artificial sweetners such as Aspartame, Sucralose, Splenda or Sacchrin.
  7. You drink less than 50 oz of pure water every day.
  8. You drink liquids with high doses of caffeine.
  9. You drink more alcohol in a week than pure water
  10. You only eat green vegetables 2 or less times a week
  11. You eat refined starches, refined grains, cheese, and meat with almost every meal.
  12. You never eat organic foods and no antibiotic, no hormones, free range meats.
  13. You hardly eat any fresh foods and eat canned foods and 'instant' type foods regularly.
